Update as of August 04, 2022

Last week SJWTX initiated an emergency service alert to regions of Comal County, including the north side of Canyon Lake (from FM 306 & FM 484 to US HWY 281), Spring Branch, Bulverde, Rebecca Creek, River Crossing, Singing Hills, Hidden Trails, and Edgebrook. The emergency was based on conditions outlined in the Drought Contingency and Emergency Plan. The plan helps identify clear strategies for each water system we operate to help maintain a safe and reliable water supply for SJWTX’s communities in the face of drought and/or other emergency conditions.

The SJWTX’s service area has two public water systems in its Comal County service area. Canyon Lake Shores, the largest, covers the service area mentioned above. Over the last several weeks, high water usage and consumption induced the tanks to fall below service levels, resulting in a trigger condition covered in the drought plan. Additionally, one of three system filters failed, resulting in an emergency trigger warranting the “indoor water use only” notification to customers. The purpose of indoor use only allows our operators and field crews to proactively repair the filter and stabilize the pressure caused by high usage.

As of August 4, 2022, we are lifting the emergency stage for those areas impacted by the emergency stage. Unfortunately, due to ongoing below-normal precipitation and high-water use, the service area will move to Drought Stage 3 according to our drought management contingency plan.

Watering grass and landscaping with a sprinkler or irrigation system is allowed one day every other week, between 7 am-10 am or 7 pm-10 pm, based on the last digit of your street address.

Day of the Week Last Digit of Address

  • Monday                               0, 2, 4 (or no address)

  • Tuesday                               1, 3

  • Wednesday                        No Watering

  • Thursday                             6, 8

  • Friday                                  5, 7, 9

  • Saturday                             No Watering

  • Sunday                                No Watering

Weekly Watering Schedule for August:

Aug 7 - Aug 13:   No sprinkler landscape irrigation allowed.

Aug 14 - Aug 20:  Landscape irrigation allowed using Stage 2 drought watering schedule.

Aug 21 - Aug 27:  No sprinkler landscape irrigation allowed.

Aug 28 - Sep 3: Landscape irrigation allowed using Stage 2 drought watering schedule.

Residents can still water by handheld hose, drip irrigation, or bucket on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday, between 7 am-10 am or 7 pm-10

While the watering schedule does not change between Drought Stages 2 and 3, there are additional watering restrictions in Stage 3. The following other watering restrictions apply under Stage 3:

  • Filling swimming pools is prohibited, except for community swimming pools, to allow for safe levels of water quality for human contact. Customers can still top off their collections with water.

  • Pressure washing is prohibited unless it is for health and safety purposes.

  • Car washing is only allowed at commercial car wash facilities that recycle water.

Effective July 28, 2022, regions of Comal County, including the north side of Canyon Lake (from FM 306 & FM 484 to US HWY 281), Spring Branch, and Bulverde, including Rebecca Creek, River Crossing, Singing Hills, Hidden Trails, and Edgebrook, will move from Stage 2 Drought Restrictions to Emergency Drought Stage.

Under Emergency Drought Stage, all outdoor water use is prohibited, except for use necessary to sustain livestock. It is crucial to avoid outdoor water use in extreme drought conditions to ensure water is available for the most critical needs and to preserve human health and safety.

SJWTX continues to see high water usage demand and consumption, resulting in this action to move to the Emergency Drought Stage. Additionally, we are performing a repair to one of the filters at our Canyon Lake Shores Water Treatment Plant, which is the primary supply for the impacted area. Lastly, our Sybil Lightfoot Surface Water Treatment Plant will soon be off-line due to falling river levels, which generally provide additional water supply to the impacted area.

Additionally, updates will be provided as they come available. If you have questions, please contact us at 830-312-4600 or by email at customerservice@clwcsc.com.
